Summer is full of sweet surprises and this one can’t be beat! Our own Anne Hills returns with her good friend, acclaimed UK folksinger and multi-instrumentalist Bill Jones!

Anne Hills is one of the most beloved voices of the contemporary folk music scene, receiving awards and recognition for her live performances, her unique solo and collaborative recording projects, and her overall artistry and benefit work. Her song “Follow That Road” was the title cut of the Martha’s Vineyard Songwriter Retreat and has been a certified folk classic since the late 1990s. Whether she is singing her own songs, the words of six-year-old Opal Whiteley, or her song settings of the Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley; accompanied with her guitar, banjo, or simply a Tibetan bell, she puts her whole heart and soul into the moment. You won’t want to miss a chance to hear her songs and stories in person. She tours extensively, winning over audiences with her warm, lively and humorous performances. (And if you love her writing, be sure to check out her “Haiku a Day” shared via her Facebook page!) The AllMusic Guide says, “A stunning soprano tone has made Anne Hills one of contemporary music’s premiere vocalists … Her knack for writing heartfelt songs [has] brought her to the upper echelon of her craft.” and Tom Paxton says, “Anne Hills is such an exquisite singer that it’s understandable that people might be swept up in the pure beauty of her voice and thereby overlook her writing. That would be a mistake. For me, Anne’s writing, in songs like ‘Follow That Road’ and many others, is as direct, melodic and deep as any work being done today. She is quite simply one of my absolute favorite songwriters.”

Bill (Belinda), with her lively style and unpretentious approach, launched herself onto the UK folk scene in 1999, starting out by singing a couple of songs in local folk clubs, and learning her craft.

In February 2001, less than a year after releasing her debut album Turn to Me, Bill won the Horizon (Best Newcomer) Award at the BBC Folk Awards.

Born in Staffordshire but now based in the North East for over 20 years, Bill plays accordion, piano, and Irish whistle, as well as having a sweet and beautiful voice. Bill’s live set features gentle songs to tug at your heart, energetic sets to get your feet tapping, and tales to enthrall, all bound together by gentle humour.

Bill has released three studio albums. Turn to Me was released in March 2000, Panchpuran followed in May 2001, and Two Year Winter was released in July 2003. All have received critical acclaim. In November 2001, Bill also released a limited edition four song EP, Bits & Pieces, and in September 2002 a live album – The Bill Jones Band “Live at The Live”. Another addition to Bill’s discography is the Faire Winds Live CD. Released in September 2003, it is a six song CD recorded during Bill’s first USA tour with the Faire Winds (Bill, Anne Hills and Aoife Clancy). Some of you may remember – we sure do! – that Bill played at Godfrey Daniels on that tour.

Bill’s own record label Brick Wall Music houses all of Bill’s CDs apart from Turn to Me which is on Bedspring Music. Thanks to Jacey and Brian Bedford (of the fantastic acappella trio Artisan) for allowing us to use their record label for Bill’s first release.

In 2004 Bill took what was intended to be a couple of years off to raise her sons (born in 2003, 2005, and then 2012), and now in 2019 Bill is finally getting back to recording and gigging. Bill’s new album Wonderful Fairytale will be released in May 2019, with accompanying tour dates.
